What are the reasons behind the requirement for clients to arrive with makeup-free eyes or without mascara for their lash extension appointment?

To optimise the quality and longevity of the lash extension application.

  • Clean Base for Precise Application: Makeup residue, particularly mascara, can create a barrier between the natural lashes and the adhesive used for lash extensions.

  • Avoiding Clumping and Buildup: Mascara residue can contribute to clumping and buildup on the lashes, making it challenging to achieve a seamless and natural-looking lash extension application.

  • Enhancing Adhesive Performance: The adhesive used for lash extensions works best when applied to clean, oil-free lashes. Makeup, particularly oil-based products, can interfere with the adhesive's bonding strength.

Why do we inquire about client allergies?

  • Smoking: Singed lashes upon return may indicate exposure to smoke, affecting the retention of the extensions.

  • Oily Skin/Hair: Clients with oily skin or hair may experience poor retention of the extensions, as they may not adhere well to natural lashes.

  • Latex: Some technicians wear gloves during treatment, and latex allergies should be noted to avoid any potential reactions.

  • Plasters: Clients allergic to plasters may also be sensitive to tapes used during the application process.

  • Acrylic Nails: The cyanoacrylate in adhesives used for eyelash extensions is similar to what is used in acrylic nails, which may trigger reactions in some individuals.

  • Fish: Fish collagen is present in some brands of eye pads, so clients with fish allergies should be aware.

  • Asthma/Hay Fever: The fumes from the adhesive may affect breathing, so clients with asthma or hay fever should keep their inhalers nearby.

  • Botox: Clients who have recently undergone Botox treatments may not be suitable for lash extensions, as contact with the treated area could be affected.
